Annual Christmas Cookie Baking

After Ellison got home from school and we had some lunch, she was very anxious to bake our Christmas cookies. I hated to start our little tradition without Jonathan, but let's face it, it's a lot more fun to make a mess baking without having Daddy fumbling in our way in vain attempts at trying to keep our mess under control. It probably made him happy, too. He has a hard time getting past his cringing in order to enjoy himself. :-) Besides, we planned on doing the decorating part as a family.

Well, I won't make the mistake of using a Betty Crocker mix to make cut-out cookies ever again. I always make them from scratch using my Aunt Betty's recipe, but decided to cut corners this year. Though, trust me, I'm scarfing down the cookies at an alarming rate, I'm not enjoying them as much as I usually do. The only bonus was that Ellison couldn't get enough of sniffing the mix. "Mommy, this smells goooooood!"

I'm glad I didn't take any photos toward the end of our baking experience. Daddy would've permanently banned us from the kitchen. After rolling her own dough, and doing her own cut-outs, she ended up having a ball just playing with a ball of dough and a mountain of flour while I finished the job.
