Today started out our weekly (or more) finger pokes to check Ellison's blood sugar. I am thrilled to say that her fasting BS this morning was 80 - that's perfect! Yesterday one of Ellison's pediatrician's called and said they talked with the pediatric endocrinologist here in Greensboro. We have an appointment set for December 1 (seriously, people?!), and in the meantime we are to check her blood sugar once a week - sometimes fasting, sometimes a couple hours after a meal - or more frequently if she doesn't seem right. We are to do this for at least a few months, as long as they're within normal range. The endocrinologist said it is possible that this huge spike in her glucose was a stress reaction, but it's also possible this is pre-diabetes. We feel like we can't let our guard down, but we'll take it as it comes. We are so thankful things are normal right now.
Just a couple of pics...
Ellison asked me what these were, and I told her a very general answer (like, "Those are Daddy's for working out"), and before I knew it, she was getting into position, putting her feet up on the fireplace for a modified push-up, never having seen them before.

As I mentioned before, Ellison is all about her 2 Barbie DVDs ("Thumbelina" and "Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses"). Her Daddy, whom she has wrapped around her tiny little finger, thought she would love this interactive Princess Genevieve Barbie (from the "Dancing Princesses" DVD). This Barbie can "teach" your child some ballet moves, do exactly what your child is doing with her arms/legs (by the child wearing these transmitter bracelet things on each limb), or she'll simply dance and twirl (at a very loud decibel, I might add) to the theme song. Ellison of course loves it. I often have the theme song stuck in my head throughout the day.

So it goes without saying that Ellison is all about things princess, ballet, dancing, singing, high-heeled, dresses, accessories, babies, and pink. She is all girl, this one. :-)
Did I mention that our little offspring is able to speak Farsi now? It started about a month ago. Every time we'd be playing with dolls or babies, I'd ask her what the name of hers was, and she'd use a name like, "Gaja". Now, the members of her make-believe social circle have names I cannot even begin to pronounce, and they all sound very Middle Eastern.
We're starting to get sassy around here, too. Thankfully, she'll usually spread the days apart, but oy. "My no want to understand what you are saying!", "No!", "This pillow is not cooperating!", "Leave me alone!", "My don't want to!". She's usually such a sweet, polite child, but oh, she does have her moments... I'm sure she'd say the same about us, too. ;-)
